m PROPOSED HUTT TRAMWAYS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Voting took place in Lower Hutt and Petone boroughs to-day on a proposal to borrow £85,000 for electric trams for the Hutt Valley. There was a majority of ,62 for the proposal'in the Lower Hutt, and a majority of 60 against in Petone. As a three-fifths majority in each borough was required to carry the proposal, it was lost. x A ROUGH PASSAGE. Wellington, Wednesday. The Ruapehu, which arrived from London this morning, had a tempestuous passage from Capetown. When off Cape Leeuwin a gale of exceptional severity came up from the east, and heavy selas belabored the vessel, whose speed was greatly reduced. Off the New Zealand coast heavy and misty weather retarded progress. No damage was done, but tie passengers had an' unpleasant voyage much oi the time. COLLISION AT BLACKBALL., Blenheim, Wednesday. The steamer Woottoh in endeavoring to' make Blackball was caught fcy the current and collided with the schooner Falcon, damaging the latter to the extent of £SO.
