A CHILD MURDERED.
BY AN INSANE WOMAN.
By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received June 29, 9.15 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. At the inquest on the girl Regussin, the medical officer at the reception house deposed that Quartly told him she had many intimations from the devil that she must kill somebody to redeem the world. Up to the day of the murder she had resisted, then had to do it, although she knew she would be punished for what she now knew to be wrong, but the evil spirit still talked to her, saying that her work was not yet finished. Quartly told the superintendent of the reception house that she thought she ought to kill another patient there. The doctor declared Quartly to be hopelessly insane. Elizabeth Quartly, a woman aged 65, informed the police on 20th June that she had killed a little girl. She acted strangely, and made a rambling statement, and was arrested for lunacy. Subsequently the police visited the woman's house and found the dead body of a girl named Regussin, with her throat horribly cut. The child left home for sckool in the morning, and was to call at Quartly's house to pay the rent for the house lier parents occupied, which was owned by Quartly. The child had been dead for four or five hours when found. - i ■
