PERSONAL.
Word was received yesterday morning that Mr. W. H. Hawkins, formerly chief warder at the 2s T ew iPlymouth Gaol, and latterly chief warder of the Auckland Gaol, had died at three o'clock yesterday morning. Ten applications were received for the position of technical organiser to. the Taranaki Education Board. The Board went into committee, and on resuming reported that Mr. F. J. Heatley, MJL, M.Sc., at present in the secondary department of the Stratford High School, had been appointed. Mr. Hig;in, of the Opunake staff, of the Bank 01 New Zealand, is leaving: on sick leave, he being granted three i months' leave of absence, and has been ordered (by doctor's advice) to spend the winter away from New Zealand. Mr. Williams, of the Dannevirke branch, has been appointed to Opunake. The friends of Canon C. R. Pollock, of New Zealand, will regret to learn of his double bereavement By the loss of his wife, who died on May lOtn at Theddingworth, ißugby, England, and of his 13-year-old daughter, Frances Muriel, who died at Southgate on May Bth., Canon Pollock resided for some time in Canterbury.
