THE COUNTY ROADS.

To the Editor. Sir,—Please allow me a little space in your vastly improved paper by way of explanation to a letter which appeared a few weeks ago re the Omata roads. Mr. Andrews appears to have stated that the foreman should: pick up the roads to make formation. Quite so. I think Mr. Huse has quite enough to do at present; then as finer weather approaches this may be undertaken, with a little help. Mr. Holmes should have stated that all the foremen should go under Foreman Holmes to learn how to make roads. Xo dou'bt in many cases it may he so. I am frequently on the Omata roads, and all I have fo say is fcbat if all the foremen were as industrious as s Foreman Huse and understood their; work as well it would be most creditable, considering that he has some 26 miles to look after whereas Foreman Holmes has some 17 miles and mostly, fairly level. Take Foreman Huse's 261 miles up liiiU and down dale, more es-' pecially in winter time, when water- J tables must be kept clear, stones raked off, etc., and .placed in heaps for forma-1 tion later on. This without a doubt is attended to. Now take the traffic on the Omata road, which is much heavier than the Waitara roads. Let us be fair, Remember that "man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn." —I am, et., FAIR PLAY.
