Bates' forest: Northerly moderate to strong winds; winds freshening to probably I gale .after [twenty hours; expect unsettled and cloudy weather; rain probable; glass fall; tides moderate, sea moderate. COLD SNAP IN TEE SOUTH. Ashburton, Last Night. A cold snap, which commenced last fiuaday, continued till last night. On three mornings of the week fifteen tie grees of frost were experienced, while \ on the other days, the register varied -, ftom 13 to 14% degrees frost. As yesterday was a sunless day, it was-ex-isted that the ice in the Domain lake '' would be fit for skating to-day, but a sudden unseasonable change occurred ; during the night, and to-day a warm > wind was blowing, and indications are ';, • jjmcertain.
