At the Sugar-Growers' Conference at Cairns it was resolved tliat steps should, be taken to have the necessary legislation passed forthwith by the Federated State Parliaments absolutely to prohibit the production of sugar cane by colored; labor, also to place a countervailing duty om sugar produced by colored labor in other countries. The conference asked for the apnodntment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the sugar industry. The State Government does not intend to make anv further advances towards suaur production until the Federal Parliament has declared its attitude as to the future of the industry.
