THE 'ECHO. The Echo completed the discharging of her cargo of sleepers at midday yesterday, having put' out the 4003 pieces in just two days, a day less than the master expected. The ftiow has a motor winch of her own and fay the aid of this the whole of the cargo was handled. She left at 6.40 last evening for Puponga, where she is to fload coal for Foxton. After discharging there ®he proceeds to Greymouth where she loads another cargo of sleepers for New Plymouth, returning afterwards for another load for here.
THE. PARITUTU. The crew of the Paritutu were paid off on .Thursday and , the same day the ves; sel was to go on to the Patent Slip for .painting, etc. When she has finished at the slip, she will go alongside the wharf to complete overhaul.
THE GREYMOUTH BAR. Throughout almost the whole of 3ast week (says the Dominion's Greymouth correspondent) the bar has been unworkable. Heavy seas, rolling in from the west haye rendered it quite impossible for any shipping to take place, hence during the iperiod mentioned the wharf | has been lined with steamers and sail-1 ers, all loaded and waiting a favorable opportunity to .proceed to their respective destinations. The new dredge, which cost almost £40,000, is unsuii for the work of removing the shingle from the 'bar, and unless the Harbor Board rise to the occasion and procure a dredge suitable for that .purpose, the future is fraught with grave consequences to the town.
