STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent! Stratford. Last Night. | I 'hear that Miss Eyeriss, wjio ii^, been an inmate of a. private hospital in] New Plymouth for the past few weeks, has had a relapse. A match is being played between the Stratford and Eltham ladies' hockey clubs at Eltham to-morrow. | At the monthly meeting of the Stratford School Committee last night the headmaster reported that the attendance for the quarter had averaged: Primary department 472, secondary 96. Reference was made to the staffing problem, the headmaster pointing out that, with an attendance of 475, they had the same number of teachers as when the average was 410 to 420. They could get no increase in the teaching staff till the attendance overaged 500, The exceptional treatment of schools in this grade seemed to be the result of a slip in framing the regulations. It was decided ,to make application to the Board for the appointment of another assistant teacher at the primary school. A moPtion to increase the salary of the careI taker by 10s a week was lost. In connection with the additions to the building; it was resolved to apply to the j!Board to' place a door in the south-east ■'corner, and' to provide a separate en|!t'rsnce< fbr the High School scholars.
