For the second match between New Zealand and Queensland the weather was dull and cool and the attendance small. The teams were as follow: 'New Zealand.—Full-back. Stohr; threequarters, Mitchinson, Burns, and Mitchell; live-eighths, O'Leary; halves, Ryan and Roberts; forwards, Ridland, Bligh, Ivemy, Pa ton, Wilson, Avery, Budd, and -Evans. The Queensland team was the same as on Saturday, except that Carmichael replaced Benbow in goal. Queensland won the toss and Paton kicked off. The ball was returned to halfway and marked by Tucker. Stanley found the line" in New Zealand's 25. The visitors worked it back, and Ridland marking just outside the home 25, I Stohr had a shot at goal, which proved unsuccessful. The .Queenslanders went ' away with the ball at their toes, but ' wer<? stopped % offside play, and the game weflt backinto the home 25, where Bligh marked, but Stohr's/Shot again failed. After further playj a free kick was awarded to New 'Zealand, but Stohr's kiok again failed. Queensland carried play into "New Zealand's 25, but were driven back. Stanley mulled and returned the kick to Wilson, who ran through but lost the /ball, Queensland saving. At this stage Bligh, who injured his knee, was carried off, and McKellar went on. The Queenslanders then attacked and rushed to New Zealand's 25, the ball flying in all directions, and a score seemed imminent, when a free kick relieved tlse pressure. From a scrum near New Zealand's 25 Guilfoyle gathered the ball up and passed to Stanley, who scored! at the corner. Stanley failed to goal. Queensland .• 3' New Zealand 0' On resuming light rain commenced* Following the kick out, the Queenslanders pressed a determined attack, and soon had the visitors in difficulties. One of the local team got over, but lost the ball in the scramble. New Zealand saved and transferred to their opponents* territory. From the line-out Paton gathered the ball and broke through and scored near the corner. ' Stohr's kick again failed. The scores were now even— New Zealand 3 Queensland 3 The New Zealanders continued to press, and, holding the play in the local 25, prevented them from getting out. Paton gathered in from the ruck and wriggled through, scoring. O'Leary goaled. New Zealand 8 Queensland 3 Once again the Queensland line was besieged. Evans picked up, crossed, and scored. O'Leary again goaled. New Zealand 13 Queensland 3 The local team made a spurt and reached the New Zealand line, where Avery accepted the ball right in the corner and made off down the line. When tackled he punted, and, following , fast, reached Carmichael before the latter could get rid of the ball. A struggle for possession ensuing, Timbury obtained lat halfway. The Blacks then gathered j round and went off towards the Queens--1 land end. Roberts, gathering at the corner, started the ball, which went right I along the line to Burns on the rignt wing, and he scored. Stohr's kick again ■failed. New Zealand 10 Queensland 3
Queensland's defence seemed useless! against the vigorous attacks of the visitors, who appeared to have little difficulty in scoring once they got in Queensland's 25. Ridland scooped up and fell over, biit lost the ball. Wilson, following, fell on the ball and scored. O'Leary i again goaled. There were no further scores, and the game ended — New Zealand 21 Queensland 3 ' * . MAORIS v. BATHURST. \ Received June 23, 12.30 a.m. ■ Sydney, June 22. The ground at Bathurst was muddy, and there were misty showers during the play. The visitors were quite at home on the soft ground, and kicked and handled the ball better than their opponents, who, nevertheless, put up a good fight The Maoris won by 12 points to 8. The first spell ended 3-all. In the second spell, however, the locals! were mostly on the defensive. Winiata, Kaipara, Pike and Takarangi ««ctired| tries. Meredith (manager of the New Zealand football team),'" asking that the All Blacks be permitted to extend their tour in Australia for a week longer than previously arranged. No definite reason is given for the extension of time, but it is understood that if the necessary leave ■of aibsence can be obtained for several of the players the tour will be extended j for another week. I INTER-COLLEGE MATCH. j Palmerston North, Lfcst Night. Wariganui College defeated Te Aute College by 14 to 9 after a tost and brilliant exhibition' on both sides. The Wanganiii passing rushes were the best seen for many years, and the tremendous crowd which sathered to see the match went wild with enthusiasm. Te Ante Juniors defeated Wanganui College juniors bv 12 to nil. and Lincoln Colleue defeated Palmerston High School Old Boy? by 11 to 5. A PLAYER SUSPENDED. Auckland. Last Night. At this, evening's meetinsr of the Auckland Rugby Union. P. McElwain, a substitute in Ponsonby's senior team last Saturday was suspended for the rest of the season for deliberately striking an opponent. The light penalty was imposed because of the plaver's previous r<">ord. <vid the fact that he complained of provocation throughout tke match.
