NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.

ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance opened at Wellington today. Mr. Wesley 6pragg (Auckland) was in the chair, and seventy-five out of seventy-six licensing electorates were represented. In the annual report reference was made to the terms of agreement arrived at with the Government re future legislation. It also stated that in future the day school syllabus would include instruction of scholars concerning the evils in connection with the use of alcohol. The report also mentioned that provisions in the Defence Bill allowing drink to 'be sold in mflitary camps had been removed. At the conference with Mahuta and representative chiefs the Maoris expressed themselves against allowing liquor to be imported into the King' Country. The report expressed great pleasure at the fact that there was a decrease of £123,831, or 4s 3d per head, in the amount spent upon liquor in New Zealand last year.

There was a great crowd at the Town Hall to-night, when a public meeting was held in connection with the Dominion Convention of the New Zealand Alliance. Addresses were delivered -by Dr. Henry and Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P.' No resolutions were submitted. THE BARE MAJORITY. Wellington, Last Night. At the temperance meeting in the Town Hall to-night the chairman read a letter from the Slaughtermen's ConfereTtce, expressing the 'hope that the No-License Convention would be successful in the efforts being made to put the' issue on a proper basis by securing such legislation as will enable the electors to determine the question of local and Dominion option by a bare majority.
