THE GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, June 21. The Premier, replying to a suffragette deputation, said that owing to conflicting opinions the Government was not likely to propose women's suffrage. A private member's Bill would be more suitable, though the prospect of bringing in a measure at .present was remote. The House should have an opportunity of discussing it, and he would submit the question to the Cabinet. Received June 22, 9.25 p.m. London, June 22. Mrs. Fawcett was spokeswoman at the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies' deputation to Mr. Asquith, and Lady Jersey as spokeswoman at the Somen's National Anti-Suffrage League. Mr. Asquith, replying to the latter, said he regarded as dangers the obluorating of political distinction of sex. The League was preaching to the converted. The proceedings of the Suffragettes during the last two years haa strengthened his view. These were not the views of the majority of his colleagues, and lie doubted whether they were the views l of the majority of his party. THE SUFFRAGE BILL. A COMMONERS' PETITION. Received June 22, 10.30 p.m. London, June Tl: Two hundred members of the House of Commons petitioned Mr. Asquith to grant facilities to Mr. Shackleton's Suffrage Bill. There are indications that facilities will be granted at the second reading stage only. TO EJECT ROWDIES. London, June 21. The Women's freedom League has organised a Women's Athletic Society to provide jujitsu experts to eject rowdies at suffragette meetings. Many have joined.
