WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent), ffhe building trade in North Tarannki must be brisk. Tenders closed on Monday evening for the erection of a shop in Waitara, when only two tenders were received, one from New Plymouth and the other from a local firm; the latter, being the lowest tender, was accepted. The value must have ben well gauged by both tenderers, for the unsuccessful one was £O2O, and that of the accepted £617 14s !)d. The North Taranaki Mounted Rifles paraded through the town yesterday, some forty-odd strong. Good work is being done 'by the corps. Camp breaks up on Friday evening, when it is proposed to hold a "social." The Clifton 'Rowing Club intend to open their hall on Friday week with a '"social." Had the building been complete, no .less than three engagements could have been taken this week. As showing the productivity of land about Waitara, it is interesting to sub. Mit the figures of a small farm on Waltara road, • The area is 03 acres, 'of which 37 were in grass. On the 3? acres no less than 23 cows and several horses, as well as, for a short period, young stuff, were grazed. After this,- for two months they were fed on ensilage from two acres. The butter-fat produced by the cows for ten months amounted to 6699.48 lb, or an average of 291.281b per cow. For a small place with such a heavy stocking the return is an excellent one.
