MAORI COUNCIL. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The committee appointed on the closing day of the Waihi native conference has drafted a letter to he sent to the Native Minister embodying the views of the conference. In this letter it is stated that the conference has agreed to the establishment of a general council, with headquarters between Taupiri and Nganiawahia, to deal with land matters and for the general welfare of the Maoris, such council to consist of fiftynine members, including a Premier, a Speaker, and four Ministers. M-ahuta is to l>e empowered to Appoint thirty-one members, and the people to elect twentyfive.
ASKED TO RESIGN-. Wellington, Tuesday. As a result of the recent commission set up by the Government, Mr. P. Heyes, Commissioner of Taxes and Valuer-Gen-eral, and Mr. Dugclale, Chief Inspecting Valuation Officer, have been as>ked to resign from the Civil Service.
