EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS.
IN AMERICA AND EUROPE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, June 16. Shocks of earthquake covering a distance of 400 miles were recorded at Washington. Shocks were also iV.t h England, Italy and Spain. THE RECORDS AT SYDNEY. Sydney, June 17. The River View seismograph, shortly after 4.30 yesterday, commenced a Tecord which lasted several hours, and was most pronounced. The instrument recorded the double amplitude of the waves in the maximum phase as 150 millimetres. The origin of the disturbance is probably about 600 miles westward of Wellington, New Zealand, where faulting seems to be going on, as the disturbance is identical with those recorded on May 2 and June 1, as ■well as those of June and December last year. WHERE DID IT OCCUR? Received June 18, 1.0 p.m. New York, June 17. The seismograph, at Washington recorded earth shocks lasting 9 minutes. Rome, June 17. The Italian observatories suggest that -the- earthquake occurred in the Pacific.'
