COMMONWEALTH TO PROTECT THEM. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received June 13, 10.50 .p.m. Melbourne, Last Night. Mr. Fisher, Prime Minister, states that the Federal Government will be glad to co-operate with the Imperial Government in putting a stop to the indiscriminate slaughter of birds for their plumage. In Papua the native birds have been protected, but as regards the mainland the Australian Commonwealth can only seek the assistance of its States and pass legislation prohibiting the export of plumage.
