SIR E. SHACKLETON

PROPOSES AN AUSTRALIAN. EXPLORATION. By Cable—Press Association-Copyright Received June 14, 12.40 a.m. Sydney, June 13. Dr. Mawson, of Antarctic fame, has arrived in the Makura. He states that Sir E. Shackleton will next year lead an Australian expedition to scientifically explore the unknown coastline lying directly south of Australia. Dr. Mawson will be in charge of the scientific work.

Dr. Mawson- states thhat before leaving England for America on a lecturing tour, Sir E. Sackleton approached two Australians in London, who promised £II,OOO towards the cost of the expedition.

When he returns Sir E. Shackleton vil-l proceed to raise the balance necessary.
