BOY IMMIGRANTS.
DISCUSSED IN AUCKLAND." " WORTH NOTHING AT ALL." By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 10,
The question of the immigration o boys from Great Britain was-again dis cussed at this, afternoon's meeting of th Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral As sociation.
The chairman (Mr. Gray) said he ha noticed that some gentlemen were op posing the scheme. Certain members of Parliament we're already raising a protest, and they liad no doubt read the extraordinary telegram sent to the Prime Minister by Mr. T. E. Taylor M.P. The farmers could not get boys to follow agricultural pursuits. Yet Mr. Taylor at once set up a protest on the 'ground that there were boys in New Zealand wanting work. Mr. J. R. Walters: "Mr. Taylor is simplying to catch the Labor vote." Mr. Gray: It is only proposed to bring aibout fifty of these boys, and it mignt be a means of setting up good settlers. It is a pity cold water should be thrown on the scheme. Mr. Ambury said the farmers were not going to be tied down to stipulated wages, nor to three years' agreement, when the boys came out here knowing absolutely nothing about the work they had to do. For some considerable time they would not be worth anything at all.
