MAORI LAND QUESTION.
PREMIER'S DECLABATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. Speaking at a big Maori conferenctat Waahi, near Hiuntly, the Premier said that the time had passed wneri the Government would tolerate any unnecessary delay in placing land not required by Maoris at the disposal of settlers. * He also insisted on Maoris recognising that they must pay rate* on their land, as it derived advantage* from the expenditure of public money in the same wav as European land. Sir Joseph Ward left last night for Wellington by the Main Trunk express.
