• A meeting was held on Monday night for. the purpose of obtaining an idea as to the amount of support a mounted volunteer corps was likely to receive locally. I understand that the promoters intend continuing with the idea. At a meeting convened for the purpose of forming a'debatimr society, held in the Druids Hall, Mr." T. R Hamerton presided. It was resolved that a society, under the auspices of the Druids Lodge, and -having as its title "The Inglewood Debating .Society," be formed. The subscription was fixed at 2s for a session of three months. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. T. E. Hamerton; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Currie, H. A. Stratford and 0. M. Boldt; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. H. Taylor., The opening night will be hold on June Ist, when the question, "Is compulsory military training desirable," will be debated. " Egmont Village crib players, twelve strong, journeyed to inglewood on Tuesday eveiiiiiir. the local team proving success by six" games (3!)-33). The visitors were entertained at supper by the home team. The Maori Entertainers had a fair attendance on-Tuesday. The performance was good, the only fault being the length of waits between the acts.
