WAITARA NEWS.

A mob of bullocks from Mahoenui caused some excitement in the town on Tuesday evening by getting out of control. They seemed to have suddenly bc.come mad and nothing would stop their career until they eventually took to the river, swimming from the west over to the east side, and some of them across again. Difficulty was experienced by the driver (aided by willing volunteers) in getting them safely to land, but this was accomplished at last. Next day they were more tractable after the previous day's experience. To-day they will be prime beef for the Home market. In veferrinj; to th» completion of the Clifton Rowing (Tli'b's died, I should have said it would be completed this week

The works committee end the engineer of the Harbor Board were busy yesterday morning in connection with the proposed site for Messrs Hatrick and Co. The necessity for a larger hall and better stage accommodation was forcibly shown on Tuesday evening, when there was "standing room only" at the Fisk Jubilee Singers' entertainment. For the ten months ended 23rd May one of the suppliers of the Waitara Dairv Company averaged £l2 4s Cd return' for his cows. With a further two months to go there is very little doubt but that £l3 will be reached, on top of which there is also the bonus, probably equal to a further t'.l 10s. Sot at all a bad record.
