PEDIGREE JERSEYS
A SUCCESSFUL SALE. That Jerseys still maintain their popularity was evinced by the attendance at Waiwakaiho yesterday, when Mr. Chas. Clarice's annual sale of pedigree Jerseys took place. The building was so crowded that numbers had to stand down in the ring itself, and if many more such sales are held Mr. King will have to very seriously consider the question of increasing the accommodation provided for buyers. Buyers were present from all over the North Island. Mr. Chas. Clarke's Kia Ora herd has a well-known reputation amongst breeders throughout 'New Zealand, so that it was not surprising that the knight of the hammer, Mr. Stanley Shaw, who now ranks as the best "Jersey" auctioneer in the Dominion, had no difficulty in securing biiU, and that the cattle all sold at highly satisfactory prices. Although no records were broken as regards individual price, still, bidding was very brisk. The . sum realised, namely, £1726 for the 47 lots, must be regarded as exceptionally good. 'A number animals will remain in various parts of Taranaki, whilst others were purchased by buyers in Wanganui, Palmerston North, Raglan, and 'Northern Wairoa. Mr. Deem, who was buying on behalf of the New Zealand Government, secured the highest priced cow, namely, Mona, a beautiful fawn and white cow by Sailor Boy^—lvy, for 70 guineas and Lady Ida, by Jersey Boy—Lady Ellen, for 07 guineas. Botti these cows are in calf to Campanile's iSultan. He also secured the highpriced heifer, Glenora, by K.C.B. —Primrose 24th, in calf to Frisky Campanile, for 54 guineas. It is expected that these will be placed on the State farms either at Ruakura (Waikato) or Levin. The two-year-old bull Frisky Campanile was secured by Mr. ,G. F. Moore (Kai Iwi) at an oufilay of 70 guineas. Details are as follow :
