Representatives of the chamber of Commerce interviewed the PostmasterGeneral and discussed Queensland's position in regard to the Vancouver service. The proceedings were private. THE GREAT NORTHERN TERRITORY. Received June 8, 12.30 a.m. Adelaide, June 7. The Assembly, after passing supply, and passing a Bill authorising a loan of £1,800,000 in respect to the Northern Territory for the redemption of Treasury Bills, and to provide the turtlier financing of the Territory, adjourned until July 5. FROZEN MEAT FREIGHT. Received June 8, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, June 7. It is persistently rumored that shipping companies contemplate advancing; freights oh frozen meat from ninesixteenths of a penny per pound to fiveeighths. A<N EXTINCT VOLCANO. Sydney. June 7. Mr. Hedley, president of the Liuuean Society, in a paper read before the society, reported that he had discovered a ■mountain peak 000 fathoms below the surface of the ocean, 40 miles straight out from Bondi. The indications were that it was an extinct volcano of gre:>t height, which had gradually sunk. The discovery was made by tracing volcanic dykes marked on the -Admiralty charts. FEDERAL LOTTERY. Melbourne, .June 7. A resolution was carried by the Wagga, Labor League in favor of substituting a Federal lottery for Tattersalls'. This was submitted to Mr. Fisher, who replied that he had more important matters to deal with, and that it was not worth bothering about the proposal. HEAVY WEATHER. Sydney, June 7. Heavy weather continues on the coast, and shipping is sheltering. SQUABBLING CHURCHMEN. Sydney, June 7The bulk of the congregation at another Anglican church, St. John's, revolted against the appointment of a new rector. They carried resolutions protesting against the alleged arbitrary action of nominators, pledging themselves to passive resistance, and withholding any assistance—monetary, personal or otherwise. LAUGHING JACKASSES. Melbourne. June 7. The service at the Colerma.ino Presbyterian Church was brought to a. sudden close, owing to the continuous noise made by laughing jackasses northed on the 'roof. The preacher stopped the sermon, and the report adds that when the birds had exhausted themselves the] congregation was not in the rnood to, received his further exhortation. GERMAN IMMIGRANTS. Brisbane. June 7. •Another batch of 237 German immigrants, including 128 children, has arrived.
