. JOHNSON-JEFFRIES "FIGHT." A MOVING PICTURE PROPOSITION JEFFRIES MUST WIN. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received June 3, 10.30 p.m. New York, June 3. A representative of the Chicago Examiner interviewed Mr. Gillette (Gover nor of California), who declared that the result of the Johnson-Jeffries flight was pre-arranged. "Johnson," he said, "will win £30,000 and more if he loses, owing to the greater value of the moving pictures. In any case, Johnson has no chance, unless he goes into the ring, prepared to whip Jeffries, the referee, and the ma jority of the male population of Cali fornia as' well. The crowd will never stand the negro." Mr. Gillette added: "I am not going to interfere, as the law permits th •bouts."
The statement has caused a great sen sation.
