NOXIOUS WEEDS PROSECUTION
ALLEGED PARTIALITY. ! By Telegraph—Press Association. ! Dunedin, Last Night. I Several deputations dealing with ] Southland matters were introduced toi the Hon. Minister for Agriculture this morning by Mr. G. J. Anderson, M.P. for J Mataura. The first was in reference to the recent prosecutions of settlers for 1 failing to clear their properties of noxious weeds. It was stated that the large land owners were allowed to escape prosecution, while small land owners were prosecuted year in and year out. It was also pointed out that it was comparatively easy to treat weeds in open country, but in freshly cleared bush country it was well nigh impossible to get weeds under control. It was alsto pointed out that the spread of weeds was due to a great' extent from seeds coming from only partly cleared Crown lands.
Mr. Mackenzie, in replying, fully dealt with the policy of the Department in connection with this question, and promised that the representations made would receive careful consideration.
