(From Our Own Correspondent). . Waitaru, Yesterday. A new piano is to be supplied to users at St. John's Hall, and not before it is needed. The Ivy Assemblies progressive euchre party and dance was held last evening, and was again a 9ixccess. The matter of the purchase of St. John's Ilall for removal dad not come before the trustees at their meeting on| Tuesday evening, owing to the fact that' no reply had been received from Auckland as' to their powers. Bayly's many friends will be i,pleased to hear that 'her health is improving. i Owing to the inclement weather on Monday evening the Caledonians had not such a good attendance as was anticipated, many people 'being disappointed at not being present. They are giving a further appearance this evening. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Borough Council took place last evening. A report will appear in our next issue. . Carters' report that the recent rami liave out up the roads in the backblocks very .badly. The member for the district and the settlers in the Makarakia will be very pleased at the success attained by the member in getting justice done by making the Kiwi road. There is no doubt ■but that it will mean very much increased business to the town, and be of incalculable .benefit to the settlers. Already it bis had the effect of inducing holders to make preparation for bushfelling, which will absorb a good tteal of the unemployed. Friday, the King's birthday, will be observed as a full holiday. The usual fortnightly meeting of the S.M. Court was held yesterday. Judgment by default was given in the following casesE. Govenlock v. Eketone, claim £4O Ids 7d; C. N T . Rowe v. H. Sparkes claim £8 13s i)<l; Gr. McKenzie v. W~n. Crozier, claim' £2 os; W. Jury y. >W. Monkley, claim £1 10s. In the judgment s'ummons cases, H. W. Cossar v. Joe Taylor, claim £23 3s sd, on order was made for the payment of 10s per month; H. Holmes v. Karipi, claim £3 Ss Ud, order for payment of £1 per month. Three prohibition orders were granted against local residents, all on their own application.
