WANGANUI. Words—respectable words —absolutely fail to describe the dull drab dreary football witnessed at Wanganui on Saturday. Juniors were "seniors'" for the most part that day, and with even that in several teams took the field shorthanded, or short-footed, whichever you like. Wanganui-Pirates match should have been a veritable Stratford-Tukapa contest, but it wasn't. Pirates, running with the wind, scored twice in the tlrst spell, neither being converted. After half-time Wanganui began to take an interest in the game, and quickly scored and goaled. A long period of uneventful play and Wanganui repeated the dos'e, the whistle sounded", and Pirates were "downed" iby 10 to 6. 'Eastern ran all over Kaierau, scoring two tries (con-1 verted )■ to a penalty goal from the toe of Mueli. The Wanganui rep. team was then selected as follows: Full-back, Meuli; three-quarters, Southcombe, King and Signal; five-eighths. Atkinson and Stewart; half, Braid; wing forward, Prideau; forwards. Giblin, Gill, O'Donnell. O'Halloran, Aitken, Dustin and Schmidt. Representatives' of the various Wanganui clubs met on Saturday to discuss means' for financing that very necessary evil, a plavers' accident fund. In order that nobody would feel offended by being left out in the cold it was proposed to "hit up" all classes of the community: the players individually with a half-crown "sub"; the local clubs to as'sist with benefit matches and entertainments; the W.Pi.U. to donate the proceeds of an annual benefit match; and the good old general public will have to run~the gauntlet of the all too persistent collection box. The promoters of have missed nobody!"— Own correspondent.
