OMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.^ An entertainment for the purpose «f raising funds for improvements to the Omata Hall was held on the 2tith inst. The hall was crowded with a most appreciative audience, and Mr. Pearson is to be congratulated upon the excellent programme lie placed before the public. He himself ably presided at the 'piano. The programme consisted of two parts, the second part ibeing given by the "Waireka Minstrels," a troupe composed of ladies and gentlemen, or, as the chairman expressed it, "the much-talked-of black and white troupe." They one mnd all played up to expectations. Some very good songs were given, and the choruses were especially well rendered. Mr. Lovell made an exceptionally good "Bones," and Mr. W. Putt an equally good "Tamlbp." The usual jokes, conundrums nnd funny sayings kept the auuience thoroughly amused from atari to finish. The innovation of ladles m a minstrel troupe proved a decided .success, and the ladies themselves must 'be heartily ■congratulated both on their appearance and singing. Each and every one of the performers having so ably acquitted themselves, it would be invidious m particularise, but perhaps 1 may bo pardoned for mentioning Mr. Ashor's songs •and those of the Misses Gilbert, which called forth hearty encores. The following was the programme:—Piano solo, "God Save the King," with variations. 111'. Pearson; song ''Down in the Deep," Mr. Asherj duet, "Pretty Page," Misses Gilbert; song, "Phoebe," Mr. W. Gilbert; song, ''Laughing Somr," Bones; chorus, "Good-night," Minstrels. At the conclusion of the concert the room was cleared for dancing, which was thoroughly enjoyed till the "wee sma' 'oors."
The Hunt Club held a meet on Mr. Clemow's farm on Thursday, when a large number of horsemen was present, and several ladies, besides onlookers in various vehicles, and some on foot.
The county has 'been metalling a portion of the road between Omata and town, and those whose business takes them often into New Plymouth would be very glad if St. Aubyn township would follow the county's example.
