NEW PLYMOUTH v. CARRINGTON ROAD. Hockey way favored with fine weather for the opening of the competitions, the match New Plymouth v. Carrington road, being played on the Racecourse Ground. Carrington Road, winning the toss, played with the wind. After a. lot of give and take .play, Perry shot an easy goal, the first spell ending, 1 to nil J In opening t'he second spell New Plymouth, with the wind at their backs, showed to better advantage, and Woods soon brought the scores even by a good shot. Just before time was called Grange received a rather severe 'knock in the eye, and while meditating leaving the field the ball, coming his way, he took advantage of the opening and shot a beautiful goal. Soon after this, time was called, New Plymouth thus winning by 2to I. In the winning team, Avery, Nixon and Outfield were conspicuous, while in the Carrington Road team Perry and Taylor played good games. Mr. Beale gave every satisfaction with the whistle.

ING-LFJWOOD A v. INGLEWOOD B. The hockey «ompetitions opened at Inglewood" yesterday, when the local teams tried conclusions. Both were short handed. A's had! 10 men, but B's could only muster seven, and were easily defeated by 8 goals to f. 11l the first spell Sutherland, J. Harris, E. Harris and Priest scored for the A's, and Henderson for the B's 1 , whilst in the second spell J. Harris (2) and N. Sutherland (2) notched goals for the A's. Mr. T. W. llolst on refereed very a'bfy.

LADIES' ASSOCIATION. WHAKATIKI v. INGLEWOOD. At Inglewood the above clubs met, the game resulting in a soniewlrat easy win for the New Plymouth ladies by 0 goals tff nil. Tries were sco Ted by Misses M. McEwen (3), D. Wlii'ttaker, (2), and M. Stolir (1). Mr. T. W. Rolston refereed.
