WANG'ANUI E.G. MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganut Jockey Club's winter meeting concluded to-day. The weatner w.as fine and the attendance large. The totalisator .put tly-ougli £10,380, anil the total for the meeting was £21,212, as against £19,335 at last meeting, results:—
Winter Oats.—Maori King 1, St. Hill 2, Ballarat 3. .Scratched: Ny:.:;:,,, uemora, and Waiouru. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 15 2-osec," Grandstand Steeplechase.—Bull worth 1, Kiatere 2, Sir Lethe 3. Also started: Lingerer, Senorita, and Oryx. Won by about a furlong, oryx broke his hack and was destroyed. Time, siiiin II ;!■:> sec. Balgownie Hack Hantlicap.—Waimoko 1, Strathmoira 2, Tain Glen 5. All started. Won by a head. Time, 2min 01-osec.
Rata Hack Hiinnes..— Maharanui 1. Woolloomooloo -2, Mab 3. Won by a length. Time, 3min Gsec. May Hurdles. —Playmate 1, Xavier 2, Aotea 3. Also started: Star and Hydrant. Won by two lengths. Time, iJmiii 18 l-osec. Empire Handicap.—Woodhey 1. Mendip 2. .John 3. Also started: Star and Moloch. Won by a nose. Time, lmin 58sec. Farewell flack Flat— Faunus 1. Golden Loop 2. Leolanter 3. All started. Won by a length. Time, lmin 15 4-ssec. XOTES OX THE RACING. (By Telegraph.—By "Moturoa.") Wanganui, Last jSiglit. i Penates and St. Bill were favorites for the Winter Oats. St. Bill led all the way, Maori iving snatching the victory in the last stride. Penates Wias fourth. Sir Lrutlie was the most fancied in the Grandstand Steeplechase. Bullworth won from start to finish. Oryx fell, breaking his back. Lingerer unseated his rider.
Strathmoira, Waimoko, and Research were evenly 'Backed in the Balgownie 'Handicap. Celeano was the first away. Tam Glen too'lc the lead before reaching the straight, fighting it out with Strathmoira, wilien Waimoko smothered the lot.
Woolloomooloo was a hot order for the Hack Hurdles. He made most of the running, hut Maharanui beat him in the run home hv a nose, and survived a protest for inconsistency. Nicotine, Merrie Lawn, and Beeline fell. Playmate and Aorangi were level favorites for the Open Hurdles. The former won from end to end. Waitapu was fourth.
Clemora and Mendip were most in demand in the Empire Handicap. Mendip looked all over a winner, but Woodhey, ■with a marvellous run,' caught and passed him in the last fifty yards. Clemora was fourth, after having a bad passage in the early stages of the race. Faunus, Attention, and Golden Loop were well supported in the Farewell Handicap. Faunus ™ot a flier, and led ail the way. Attention, Leolanter, and Golden Loop successively challenged out could make no impression on the leader. Golden Loop neat Leolanter in the home distance, finishing strongly. Speculation was brisk, the starting uniformly good, and the racing'interesting. big fields making t'he winners hard to pick.
