An interesting discussion took place at Wednc-dn's meeting of the Kducation Hoard relative to the need for instructing uiililren in a knowledge of the e\ils of .-inoking and gamhliag. A letter was read froni the Salvation Army, stating that, an anti-gambling and antismoking league for the hoys and girl* of Xew Zealand had just been launched, and they desl.'cd the Auckland Education Hoard ;o allow an officer of the Army to visit the city schools and give a short address to the children on the evils of smoking and gambling. This privilege had ueen grunted ia other places and had proved very satisfactory in its results.
