TARANAKI GUARDS.
AXXUAL MEETIXG. The annual meeting of members ot the above corps was iheld in the Town Hall last night. Captain Mills presided,' and there was a fair muster of members! Captain Mills congratulated the corpd on the general behavior during the year. The company had, he saifl, maintained its reputation for attendance and efficiency at drill and field work. The work done by the recruiting committee had resulted in the company being maintained at full strength during the year. At the present time there were about seventy on the roll, and in the near future the establishment is to be raised to eighty-four. He concluded by expressing a hope that during the present year one and all would continue to take a keen interest in the welfare of the corps, as that wa.»' the only means of maintaining its present higth state of efficiency. The balance sheet, as presented by the secretary, was adopted. It showed the finances to be very satisfactory. The annua! report of the Shooting Committee showed that the company had been very successful in teams' matches, and that a greater number of members had taken part in shooting. Tn all the company had tired in twenty five matches, including those agamst teams from ILM.S. Cambrian and Pegasus, and the average points scored by the first eight men was over !>O, wnich, considering that matches were fired in all weathers', is very good. Seven possibles had been scored by members in matches during the year. The Champion Belt is held by Private Grover; the Taunton Challenge Shield by Corporal Bruce, wiho also won Lieut. Messenger's gold medal. Sergeant Olliver won Messrs. L. D. Nathan's trophy, and Private Short the silver «poons presented by Private Grover. The ammunition prizes presented by Mr. C. W. Govett have become quite a feature ot the trophy shooting. The committee also wish to thank Mr. J. Bennett and Private Blanchard for trophies presented. Committees were elected as follows: Shooting: Col.-Ser»t. Hartnell, Sergts. Olliver and Lobb. Privates Riddles, Hill, Johnson and X-icilioll>'. General: Col.Sergt. Hartnell, Sergts. Olliver. Evans and Arnold. Corp. Bruce, Privates Blanchard and Riddles. Social: Sergt. Lobb, Corp. Green, Private Goldwater, Johnson, Drinkwater. Ifarding and MeGonagle. Recruiting: Sergts. Evans, ArnoM, Privates Johnson and Harding. Finance: Capt. Mills and Private Hill. Auditor, Sergt. Arnold; secretary, Lieut. Boon. Votes of thanks were accorded to outgoing committees. It was decided that owing to the death of His Majesty King Edward VTT. all social functions be indefinitely postponed.
