STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From tmr Special Correspondent). Stratford, Last Night. Though at present there are no visible signs of a "boom," there is undoubted proof that the price of town Unds is hardening. There is a keen demand for good sections, and any that are rooanled as bargains are quickly snapped up, I hear that the purchaser of a property in a good position in Broadway, who not many months ago paid nearly £6O a foot, on being asued if he would Bell, required £IOO a foot. It is reported that the Department propose reducing the number of men ok the Stratford-Ongarue railway line. How far truth and the rumor coincide has yet to be ascertained. •I hear that Mr. R. Hannah, of Wellington, who recently acquired a .portion of Mr. James' property in Broadway adjoining the Bank of Australasia, cootemplates the erection of an up-to-date shop. The Hospital Ball is being held tonight, and if preparations count for anything _it should be a financial as well as a social success. It is stated that an information for forgery of a cheque has been laid against a former resident of Stratford, who recently left the town. An information for alleged sheenstealing is reported to have been laid against a settler in the Stratford county, and the case will probably ,be heard on .Monday, 30th inst. A very old resident of Stratford passed away yesterday, in the peTson of Mr*. W. Noble, at the age of 73 years. The only offices in Stratford to close for Empire Day were those of the solicitors, the banks and Government offices »remaining open as usual.
