GOOD TEMPLARS' FAIR.
The Good Templars' Bair is to be held! in St. Mary's Hall, Vivian street, to-! day and to-morrow. The local lodge has| embarked upon a building project, and' will erect a hall and lodgeroom at the; comer of Carrington road and Courtenay street. Funds.' are required for the! building, and with this object in vrewi the friends of temperance in New Ply-, mouth have been working hard for! months past. The result will be seen' to-day at this fair, which will be run. on very complete lines. The opening ceremony will be por-| formed at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon 0y! Mr. H. Okey, M.P. I One of, the principal stalls is that of! the W.C.T.U., on the right of the en-j trance. The members of this kindred! organisation have gotten together a cap- j ital collection of plain and fancy ne idlework, and miscellaneous good*. TV-re is also a second ladies' stall. A feature of the fair will be tlie industrial stall, upon which is offered for sale the ! work of the members, such as cardtables, couch, book-castes and so on. Mr. N. T. Maunder will run an electrical display of various devices, an electric washbasin with the elusive coin at the bottom, and a motor to drive a new sewing machine, which is on sale. Here we may remark that there are to be no raffles and no guessing competitions, even for the fat sheep presented by Mr. Okey, M.P. Some of the bigger artic' ;s will be competed for by rifle-shooting i competitions with a rifle that is hot erratic, as most bazaar rifles are.
A friend in England has very kindly donated a large shipment of white and fancy chinaware tea sets, which the lodge can sell very cheaply in any quantities. Amongst the stalls are trie fruit ano lolly stall, soft drinks, pictures' s.nd paintings, pot plants and flowers, do'l stall, children's stall and a tent containing the boys' comic "art gallery." Afternoon tea and supper will be available, and there are private supperrooms for (parties. Other articles fov sale are a bicycle, violins, an autoharp and other musical instruments. To day the musical programme is to be provided under the direction of Miss Dowling, and to-morrow by Mrs. Moverley. There are indications that the affair will be a big success.
