The King, through Mr. Winston Churchill, in a letter ; klressed to "my people,'' ::;.knowledges the voice of af-| feetion and loving devotion to hisj father's memory from every part of the' Empire. "Sentiments evoked by a sor-j row so sudden and unlooked for have' made me realise that the loss is com-1 mon to me and my people. I therefore take courage and hopefully look to the future, strong in my faith for good, trusting the people, and cherishing the laws and constitution of my beloved country." On the occasion of the new King's accession various remissions of senten-| ces have been announced.
