The directors of the German-Austra-lian Steamship Company, in the course of their annual report to the sharehokl- ' ers, refer to tee new steamers now in course of construction for the cargo trade (between Hamburg and Antwerp and Sydney and other Australian ports. , The names selected for the new liners • are Elmshorn, Ess'lington, Hamm, Rends- : .burg, and Weismar. They are all ves- [ sels of about 4400 tons gross, and will have a deadweight capacity of between '.' 7floo and 8000 tons. The whole of the > vessels are being constructed in German shipbuilding j'ards, and .will shortly be [ launched. With these additions, the i fleet of the German-Australian SteainI ship Company will number thirty-eight I vessels. Regarding the operations of J the company during the twelve months ) under review, the directors state: "Busit ness with Australia last year moved within normal limits. The wool trade was in a very favorable and 'healthy condition, besides which there was a re- ' cord grain harvest. Wool freights were 1 specially satisfactory. The great coal } miners' strike in New South Wales at the .best season of the year,, however, produced ill effects. The outward traffic to Australia, was, on the other hand, better than it had been for a long time, both from New York and Europe." OVERSEA VESSELS. FOR NEW PLYMOUTH.
