News has been received that the steamer Kirkfield, from Christmas Island to Kobe, phosphate laden, struck a shoal in the Palawan passage. The crew strove for seven days to keep the vessel afloat, but she sank. The crew reached Balabec in boats after a trying journey of 31 hours.
