Mr. R. J. Deare left last night on a business visit to Auckland.
Mr. V. Meredith, of WeHbsrtun, has heen appointed manager of the New Zealand RiKsby team for Australia. The Rev. F. Carew-Thomas and Mr. C. 0. Hawke were amongst the passengers per Rarawti to Auckland last night.
The health of the Rev. A. M. Johnston, at one time vicar of St. Luke's, (sreytown, is causing his friends grave anxiety. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Morpeth arrived in New Plymouth yesterday, having come by motor-car from Auckland. They are staying at the Criterion Hotel.
The Prime Minister left Wellington last night for Christchurch, en route to Greymouth and Hokitika. Sir Joseph Ward will deliver a political address at Hokitika on Wednesday evening. Mr. W. Jennings. M.P., left by the Unrawa last evening for Pio Pio and Paimako. These places are pioneer settlements of the Kinw Country, and the directors of the dairy factory that is to .he established have' invited the member to lav the foundation-stone on Wednesday next.
A number of vacancies have occurred, or will shortly arise, in the Legislative Council. Death has removed the Hon. J. Holmes and the Hon. F. Trask, while the term of appointment of the Hon. Mahuta has expired. The terms of the Hon. W. Beehan (Auckland), Hon. Seymour Thorne George (Auckland). Hon. T. Kennedy Mncdonald (Wellington), and Hon. H. F. Wigram (Christchurch) expire on 22nd June.
