Mr. Ketyh, manager of the Taranakr l s Petroleum 'Company, reports that No. i r[ bore is now down to a depth of 3015 ft Sll this being the deepest well in New ZeaM land. It is cased to a depth of 2988ffc ,j_ The formation penetrated during the ~e last fifteen feet has been improving t 0 .steadily as regards indications of oil, and 1n the well is now* half-filled with oil, which [ ie has come up inside the 5-inoh casing. )T , This is apart from the constant flow of 1,. oil which is being obtained between the re 5-inch and 6-inch casing. So long as a t these very favorable indications last borliel i-ng will be continued. Owing to being iy unable to utilise the gas from the bore f C through the explosion uuring the week i C . bursting the tank, from which it was r. convened to the toilers, Mr. Keith is o- using the waste oil for firing.
