! N.P. EAST CLUB. One of the principal races of the year, held under the auspices of the iNew Plymouth East Flying Club, and known as the "Oaks," was decided on Saturday i last from Greatford, a distance of 104 miles, Eight members entered for the ; event, nominating forty .birds hen birds only being allowed to compete. The climatic conditions were most unfavorable, the 'birds having to contend with a gusty head wind, which, combined with heavy showers from the N.W., prevented fast .progress .being made. The birds were .kindly, liberated by the star tion master at 11.15 a.m., and all birds competing have homed to their respective lofts, a creditable .performance under such trying circumstances. The Club have been very fortunate with young 'birds this season, the losses of birds competing not exceeding two per cent. Tlie winner of the "Oaks" becomes the possessor of a handsome silver egg cruet, .presented by the Club, the successful competitor being Mr. W. H. Boulton, the times recorded being as follows:—W. H. Boulton's .Mahara, 3 hrs. 53min. 30s>ec, 1; W. Bransgrove's Tullaroo, 3hrs. 53min. 40sec., 2; F. 1 James' Rosamond, 3hrs. 54min. lOsec., 3; W. Gleeson'a Rimu, 4hrs. 4min,, 4.
