."\JF, T. Bellringer, town clerk, returned from Auckland yesterday morning.

Mr. P. Galvin, formerly editor of The •Horning Journal, has been appointed secretary of the Royal Commission to inquire into the Ohinemuri river silting.

Mr. W. Carter, the Government diamond drill expert, has left for Orepuki, to supervise the boring, operations oh the New Zealand Shale and Oil Coml pany's .property. Mr. J. Logan Stout, son of tihe Ghief Justice, has been appointed editor of the New Zealand Law Reports, in succession to Mr. H. H. OstUer, who has accepted a position in the Crown Law Office.

Mr. Henry Bulling, of Waikanae, was 110 years of age on May 7th. He was 'born at Stratford, England, in May, 1800, and landed in Wellington by the ship London in 1840 —seventy years ago. He has lived under six Sovereigns—George lIT., George IV., William IV., Victoria, Edward VII. and George V. An Auckland telegram slates that Mr. F. E. Baume, M.P., died -at Nauheim. Germany, on Saturday. The late Mr. P/aume was born in bunedin on 13t& June, 1802, and educated at the Thames High School, the Otago High School, the Otago University, and the Auckland University College. On leaving school he entered into commercial and journalistic 'pursuits, but studied law, and in 1884 he became :a. solicitor and barrister. In 18!)1 he attained the LL.B. degree, and in 1007 was made a K.C. Tn 1902 he was elected a member of the House of Representatives for one of the Auckland seats, and hais retained the seat ever since, lie took a (prominent part I in the public life of Auckland, having at various times been a member of the Citv Council, the Harbor Board, and other bodies. He was keenly interested | in educational matters, and besides being | a member of the Auckland University College Council he was a fellow of tho New Zealand University Senate and cihairman of the Parliamentary Educa' tion Committee from 1003 to 1005. Tn the lecil profession he held several important offices.
