A movement is on foot to make a presentation to Mr. W. H. Jackson, who has been for twenty-one years headmaster of t'ho Masterton District High School.
Sergeant Win is, oi JJuneuin, will probably take the place at Palmerston North of Sergeant McGuire, who was shot during the search for Po'welka.
Mr. John Maekay, late of Dunedin, and now of Bluff, ha* lived under six Sovereigns, He was born at Dundee in April, 181!), so he wns a subject of Kiiie George lfl. '
Mr. J. Larmer, formerly on the staff of the Moiminbaki State Farm, was, prior to his leaving for the South Island! presented with a .purse of sovereigns, a gift from 'his U'avertey and Moumahaki friends.
The Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Xeligan), who was takea ill on Monday afternoon, is still progressing favorably, though it will be some days before'he is even allowed to see anyone except members of his family.
The funeral of the late Mrs. 'H. J. Price took place on Saturday afternoon. The floral tributes were very numerous, including wreaths- from the New Plymouth Cricket Club, of which Mr. Price has for long been a very useful member.
The death occurred at Ma*terton on Thursday evening of Mr. W. Cragg. The deceased carried on business in Masterton >as a tobacconist and hairdresser for several years. He was well-known in Siporting circles, having owned Aberration, Let'herin, Captain Spec, and other performers on the race track. Bro. Christopher J. W. Griffiths, of Blenheim, t'no new Grand Master of Grand of New Zealand Freemasons, who has just been installed at the Wellington Town Hall in the presence of about eight hundred Masons from all parts of New Zc'ind, landed at Nelson in IStil from London by the shin G India tor. He settled at Wairau, where his stepfather, Dr. Muller, was then Resident Mn-ristrate. He entered the service of the Hank of New Zealand, 'with which he was connected for about three year-, and then started business as a land and shire broker. Lately he retired from business, leaving it to be carried on by his two sons. He joined the Unanimity Lod.w, E.G.. 1230, in lSlifl. of which he has been twice Master, and its secretary and treasurer for many vears. He his interested himself greatly in the Royal Arch, and two years ago was Grand Z of the Dominion.—Mr. A. Griffiths, of New Plymouth, is a son.
