LIGHTNING AND THUNDER
A ROTiORUA STORM. ELECTRIC LIGHT CUT OFF. By Telegraph—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. During a storm at. 1.30 this arternoon lightning struck the flagstaff at the Grand Hotel and shattered it to splinters.
The flag whs flying half-mast at the time.
A clerk in the Motor Coaching Company's office was thrown off his chair to the floor hy the lightning, and in a saddlery shop adjoining, one of the men who was stooping down getting an article from under the bench, was thrown to the ground.
The electric lighting was interfered with in many shops and other places, and the town is without current tonight.
The lightning assumed the shape Ot a hall of fire.
In the yard of the Grand Hotel portions of the flagstaff were thrown a great distance. , The storm was of short duration, *ue very severe while it lasted.
