TWO PLUCKY PEOPLE
BAULK ARMED BANK-ROBBER AND TURN THE TABLES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received May 16, o.*u a.m. Sydney, Last Night. A sensational attempt to rob the Boxhill branch of the E,S. and A. Bank failed owing to the pluck and presence of 'mind of the manager (Mr. Sutton) and his wife.
Early this morning Mr. Sutton was awakened by a light shining in his face, and he found himself looking down the barrel of a revolver. A man with a motor overall and his face masked was standing at his bedside. The intruder demanded money, and ordered Mr. Sutton to get up, keeping him covered with the revolver, and told him to throw up his arms. Meantime Mrs. Sutton 'was awakened, and told the man not to hurt her husband, at the same time pulling the bell rope at the bed's head connecting with the kitchen, and told the robber she had given the alarm.
The man .rushed and secured the bell pull, and again ordered Sutton to get •up. | Sutton, bringing down his arms upon the bed, managed to secure his revolver from under the ipillow and fired pointblank at the robber, who, bending down, rushed out of the room and closed the door, then fired through the panel, the, bullet striking tlhe wall near the bed.' Sutton then telephoned for the police, who did not arrive for a considerable time.
In the meantime the man got away, leaving tract's of blood 'where he had ramblr-d -ibout the premises seeking to escape, the result of Sutton's shot.
