A GROWING BUSINESS. Twelve years ago the Melbourne Clothing Company was unknown in Taranaki. To-day, all over the province, the "Melbourne" is a byword. The firm commenced its Taranaki career when it started :a; three weeks' sale in a little twelve-foot shop adjoining its present premises in Devon-street, New Plymouth. Tlhe public's generous recognition of the new firm was so spontaneously solid that it was decided to stay permanently. Within a few month's the fine shop on the comer of Devon and Liardet streets was acquired and the business established on a solid basis. In the following year a successful branch store was opened in Broadway, Stratford. The next move was the acquisition of the adjoining shop in New Ply mouth, which was opened as a boot and shoe department in conjunction with the clothing, mercery, hats, etc. The business then grew so rapidlv tiliat witl'm the next few years extensive additions and enlargements were made in New Plymouth, and it was also found necessary to move into larger and more commodious .premises at Stratford. Three years ago saw another important development 'when the firm acquired the well-known clothing and mereerv business of C. C. Pitkeathlev's at Bridgestreet, Eltham, where now a steadily increasing business is being done. Now in tlhe twelfth year it hn.s been decided upon to tulce over the adjoining premises in New Plymouth at present occupied by Mr. J. W. Thomson, baker. Tenders are being invited for huge alterations and' extensions, and when these are com- j pleted the "Melbourne" will be the I largest and most up-to-date clothing and mercery business in the Dominion" nuislde the four bit? centres.—Advt NO HOUSEHOLD Should ever be without .. hnftle of Dr. Sheldon's Magnetic Liniment; a reliable remedy for cuts, bruises, aches, pains, rheumatism, lumbago, etc. Obtainable everywhere.
