NEW COAL MINES
NEAR THE MAIN TRUNK. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. For some time prospecting has been going on at Ketakure, in the Wainvarino district, where indications have been discovered on Crown land of a valuable seam of coal. Dr. Bell, Director of Geological Surveys, reporting on the subject, states there are several million tons of coal in sight, and that the coal is. of excellent quality, similar to that found at Mokau. Yesterday Cabinet authorised the expenditure of a further amount for development purposes, and it is expected tihe mine will soon be in running order. It is only five or six miles from the Main Trunk railway.
