The Hon. W. P. Reeves has resigned his position of financial adviser to the Government in London. Amongst the passengers per s.s. Karawu to Auckland last night were Messrs. Walter Bewley, C. Arnold* Jones and Isaac Bayley. Cable advice was received yeaterdax that Master James Sinclair, son of MA R. W. Sinclair, of Carrington Road, hat passed his first medical examination 0 Glasgow University. A meeting of the directors of the Eltham Dairy Factory Company, held to consider the appointment of an msuector, decided to defer the matter for the present.—Argus. A Wellington telegram states that Captain F. B. Mabin has been appointed finance member of the Council of Defence, a position which Colonel Collins had to resign recently when he became Controller arid Auditor-General. Dr. P. H. Buck, M.P., is still actingas medical officer in Raratouga pending the return of Dr. Dawson, or arrival of a permanent medical officer. During hisstay. Dr. Buck has been feted by several of the leading natives in the Cook Islands, as he is much liked; The Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Neligan) was taken ill on Monday. Upon Dr. Marsack being called in, the Bishop was pronounced to be suffering From a threatened nervous breakdown. His Lordship has been ordered complete rest and freedom from all duties and personal visitations during the next few days.
