A world's hurdles record,—ln consequence of the form shown by J. L. Davis recently, a special handicap was arranged to be held at the .Melbourne Cricket Ground over the 440 yds hurdles—lo flights of 3ft Oin hurdles 40yds apart. In a splendid finish Davis won by a yard from J. Brake .(40yds), with L. G. Duffy (55yds) third. The time was taken by four time-keepers, tdiree of whom agreed that it was 57 2-osrc. This is. .a new .world's record, beating the 58 1-osec. record made (by the same •runner on the same ground on Xovembar 12, 1006.

Equals world's -records.—Milwaukee, March 12.—The Chicago Athletic Association captured the indoor championship heat of the Central Association of the Amateur Athletic Union with ease tonight, finishing with 48 points to its credit. Xotre Dame was second with 33, and Hyde Park High, Chicago, third, with !4. Kiviat runs fastest mile of the season.—Abe! Kivi.it, of the Irish-American Club of New York, has the fastest mile of the season to Iris credit as a result of liis victory over Harry Gissing, of the New York "Athletic -Club, at Madison Square Garden a few nights ago. In a special match race under the auspices of Columbia University for the Baxter Cup, Kiviat covered the distance in 4.22 3-5. George Bonhag, of the Irish-

American Clit'i, was third. Melvin ■Sheppard was announced to start in the race, but owing ,to his trial ibefore the Military Athletic League officials in Philadelphia on the same evening, was unaible to compete. Kiviat is the high school .boy who created & sensation lastspring by winning the junior championship in the metropolitan district from a field of first-Class runners.
