KAWHIA HARBOR. For some months the captains of the Northern Steamship Co.'s boats trading to Kawhia (says' the Auckland Herald) have made unfavorable reports as to the depth of water, stating that it was risky to negotiate the harbor at dead low water in heavy weather. On Monday, Captain Roberts, of the s.s. Rothesay, took careful soundings, and found that the deep water channel has shifted considerably to the northward from the course indicated by the beacons. Captain Roberts proposes to make a further survey. Captains of boats have been notified of the matter. It is hoped that the beacons will •be definitely arranged shortly. The beacons at present allow for ample water except at spring-tide low water when a heavy swell is running.
It is annunoced that the TTuddartParker Company's new intercolonial liner Zealandia will leave England for Melbourne on the 20th inst. A tempestuous passage of nine days from Westport to Hobart was recently made by the Koromiko. Captain Chrisp (says the Sydney Telegraph) reported that the vessel left Westport at noon on the 13th April, and next day ran into a south-west gale and heavy sea. The weather got so had that it was deemed expedient to heave-to for three days. The ship being deeply laden, her, decks were continuaaily awash. At the end of three days the weather moderated slightly, and the course was resumed. On approaching the Tasmanian coast strong winds and heavy seas were again experienced, and continued almost to arrival. OVERSEAS VESSELS. FOR NEW PLYMOUTH.
