Three hundred and fifty bodies have already been recovered from the. ruins. The injured are being conveyed to San Jose, fourteen miles away. When the houses were crumbling and the inmates rushing to the streets, thieves anil murderers escaped from tin- gaols and began plundering, increasing the general terror. Martial law has been proclaimed.
An immense meteor two hours after lln earthquake crossed the Nicaraguan frontier, leaving a luminous track. This augmented the fenrs of the .populace.

Renter's Panama corresipondent advices that the earthquake caused much suffering in the province. Besides C'artago, towns on the railways thence to Port Lemon were affected.
