THE WOOL SALES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, May 5. There is keen comipetition at the woo sales, and prices are fully maintained. NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. At the Haymarket on Saturday a fair number of .pigs was penned and sold at the following rates: —Weaners 6s to 9s Ckl, suckeTs 3s Gd to' ss, stores 13s 6d to 15s. porkers 21s to 335, hjorsc, trap and harness £8 15s. A large quantity of second-class timber was offered and realised very satisfactory prices. At Douglas on Monday the yards were taxed ito the utmost, to accommodate all the cattle that come forward. There was also a fair yarding of sheen. Bidding for all classes was brisk, everything, with the exception of a line of 30 4-year bullocks, being sold at the hammer. Weaners made £1 7s to £1 lis fid, 18-months steers £3 9s. 2-year do. £4 to '£4 Os 6d, store cows £2 15s to £3 7s, forward do. £3 10s fid to £4. fat cows £4 3s fid to £4 lis, in-calf heifers £4 14s to .£5 2s, springing heifers £6 15s to £7, empty heifers £3 Is, buils £llos to £3 IOs; lambs 7s 5d to 8s 4d, small -do. 5s 3d, 2 and4-tooth ewc> 10s lOd. 2-tooth wethers 10s 3d to Ids fid, fat wethers 13s lid, 4 and 6 tooth ewes lis Id, f.m. do. 6s fid. At Stratford on Tuesday there was a big yarding, with good attendance of buyers. The quality all round was above the average. A few pens of really choice Hereford maiden heifers, 2-years old, were keenly (Competed for, and made up to £5 19s fid. A very fine line of 3y 2 to 4-year bullocks attracted a good deal of attention, and were all sold at satisfactory prices. Bidding for all classes was brisk right through the sale and nearly everything sold at the hammer. .Mixed weaners made 30s fid to 36s fid, weaner heifers 395, empty heifers £2 15s to £3 10s, in-calf heifers £3 12s fid -to £4 15s, 18-months steers £3 2s 6d to £4 16s, 2-year steers £3 8s fid 'to £4 2s Od, 2%-vear steers £4 8s 6d to £4 lfis, 3 to 3y 3 -year bullocks £5 5s to £5 10s fid, 3>/ 2 to 4-year bullocks (forward £C 13s to £6 14s, store cows £2 os to' £3 4s, forward do. .£3 9s fid to £4 9s, fat cows £4 lfis to £5 lis, prime do. up to £(> Is, fat maiden Hereford heifers £5 15s to £5 19s 6d, bulls £3 9s to £4 ss. At Stony River on Wednesday there was a fair yarding. There was little enquiry for young cattle and several lines were passed. Grown cattle were in good demand, and practically everything in this class was sold at the hammer. Weaners made 15s 6d to £1 6s Gd, Jersey heifer calves to yearlings £2 os, 18months to 2-year steers £3 12s, in-calf heifers £3 10s to £4 6s, do. (nice quality) £5 ss, store cows up to £3 3s, forward do. £4 2s Gd to £4 5s fid, fat I do. £4 10s to £5 lis, stags £5 14s: i f.m. ewes 10s 4d.
MATTHEWS AND BENNETT. Matthews and Bennett report that there was a good entry of cattle at their Inglewood Yards on Wednesday last, and nearly everything changed hands as follows:—Calves. £1 5s to £1 13s; empty heifers, £2 8s to £2 13s; 18 to 20 months steers, £3 to £3 10s (kl; 2-vear heifers, r.w.0., £3 (is to £3 13s; fresh cows, £3 2s Gd to £3 8s 6d; fat do., £4 l€s Od to £4 18s; .sprin*!-calvers, £3 7s (id to £4; springins heifers, £5 as to ,£0; f.m. ewes, Bs"fid. OUTSIDE MARKETS. ADDINGTON. At Addington live stock market entries of stock were not so large as of late, all classes of sheep being offered in smaller numbers.
Store sheep.—Forward lambs made 9s Od to 10s 3d, others 8s 6tl to Os 3d, small and inferior Gs to Is Gd, good ewe lambs 12s to 12s 6d, others 10s to lis Gd, forward wethers lis 3d to 12s 6d, backward conditioned lots 10s to lis, merino wethers 6s 4d, good two-tooth crossbred ewes 14s 9d to 15s Bd, 2 and 4-tooth ewes 13s to 13s Od, small two-tooth 12s, good sound-mouth lines lis to 12s 6d. Fat lambs—There were 5085 taken for' freezing, 430 by butchers, and 600 were passed. The range of prices was: Prime wethers 10s to 10s. extra 22s (3d, others 13s 5d to 15s OJ, prime ewes 13s to 16s 3d, extra to 18s 4d, others 8s bcl to 12s Gd.
Fat cattle—Stores made .€6 as to £lO 10s, heifers £5 2s Gd to £1), cows £4 10s'to £!) 10s, equal to 20s Od to 22s for prime and 18s to 20s for medium quality iper 1001b. A small yarding of veal calves made 4s 6d to 435. A small yarding of store cattle met with a- dull sale, yearlings making 18s, 15 to 18-months to £2 15s, twu-ycai heifers £3 10s to £3 18s, 2</ 2 -year steers £4 2s 6d to £4 18s. dry cows 30s to £4. Dairy cows were in good demand at £3 10s to £lO. There was a medium entry of piss. ! and for fat* there was rather better ■ sale.
